Biography

Born in Badalona (Barcelona), Spain, in 1973

In 2007, he received the National Prize of Music for his great ability as a performer. When he was fifteen years old, he started to sing in the “Peñas Flamencas” circle.
In 1993, after winning four prizes including the “Lámpara Minera” (one of the most prestigious prizes in the Flamenco genre) in the national singing contest, “Cante de las Minas” in La Unión (Murcia-Spain), he started his professional career.
He has also participated in the most important national and international music festivals and has sung in prestigious venues such as the Odéon Theatre (Paris), the Barcelona Liceo, the Teatro Real (Madrid), the Carnegie Hall (NY), the Lincoln Center (NY), the Rome Auditorio Parco della Música, the London Sadler’s Wells, etc…
He has also collaborated with many important artists such as Santiago Auserón, Enrique Morente, Israel Galván, Eva la Yerbabuena, Martirio, Rodolfo Mederos, Mariza, etc…
Miguel Poveda has also acted and sung in different movies : “La Teta y la Luna” (Bigas Luna), “Fados” (Carlos Saura), “La question humaine” (Nicolas Klotz).
He has recorded six records to date. His most recent, Tierra Calma (2006), has won various prizes and has been nominated twice for the Latin Music Prize: the Latin Grammy.
