Gims takes the nickname "Gims" in reference to Asian cinema and the world of martial arts.
Maître Gims was a former member of the hip hop group Sexion d'Assaut.
Gims played the song "Arhbo" along with Ozuna for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Gims was born in Kinshasa, Zaire, Kinshasa, Zaire, on 6 May 1986.
He founded his own clothing brand, Vortex Vx, and co-created the manga "Devil's Relics" with his brother Darcy.
Gandhi Djuna was born on 6 May 1986 in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His father, Djuna Djanana, was a singer himself and worked with Papa Wemba. Maître Gims moved to Paris as a child, living in the 3rd arrondissement of the capital. While studying graphic design and communications, the teenager immersed himself in rap with the group 3ème Prototype. Following the release of the mixtape La Terre du Milieu (2005) and the street album Le Renouveau (2008), the members of 3ème Prototype joined Sexion d'Assaut.
Now a member of the leading French rap collective of the 2010s, Maître Gims has not forgotten to collaborate with other headliners. After appearing alongside Youssoupha, Mister You and Sniper, he backed Dry in 2012 on the hit "Ma mélodie". That same year, he began releasing unreleased tracks to herald a future album. This series of songs - which will not appear on the album - is grouped together under the name Ceci n'est pas un clip.
The stage was set and Maître Gims ratcheted up the tension in stages. On 2 March 2013, the track "Meurtre par strangulation" (Murder by strangulation) was released, reaching number 78 in the charts. On 16 March, it was the turn of "J'me tire", which took him to No. 3 in the charts. Released in May 2013, the singer's debut album Subliminal proved to be a tidal wave of success, catapulting him to the top of the French rap charts with over a million copies sold.
This position, bolstered by the success of the third single "Bella", was maintained until the August 2015 release of his successor Mon Coeur Avait Raison, preceded by the hits "Est-ce que tu m'aimes?" and "Laissez passer". The album also includes the duet "Je te pardonne" with the internationally successful Australian singer Sia. This new French success, which went to number one in the album charts and went on to earn a second diamond disc, was followed three years later by a lavish forty-track album, anticipated by the first singles "Ana Fi Dar" and "Caméléon". The Ceinture Noire album, released in March 2018, features a duet with French chanson revelation Vianney on 'La Même' and collaborations with rappers Lil Wayne, Orelsan, Sofiane (the single 'Loup-garou'), MHD, Dadju, H-Magnum, Super Sako & Hayko, Bedjik and Quincy.* 'Sad'
