There are two bands named Nunatak. 1. A band from Antartica known for performing for Live Earth in 2007 2. A Spanish indie folk band with pop elements. 1. Nunatak is the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station’s house band. The five person indie rock band is part of a science team investigating climate change and evolutional biology on the Antarctic Peninsula – a region where temperatures have risen by nearly 3°C during the last 50 years. From April to October - the Antarctic winter - planes can’t fly in because of the cold – the frozen sea keeps ships out. Physically isolated from the rest of the world, the 22 wintering team share their talent and creativity with one another. The group gained worldwide attention after being the sole act of the Antarctic concert for Live Earth on July 7, 2007. Several people - including Dave Holmes and Larry King - called their performance the best of the concerts. Nunatak (a Greenlandic word): An exposed summit of a ridge mountain or peak (not covered with snow) within an ice field or glacier. 2. (Translated from the Spanish version of this page, written in 2014.) The light melodies typical of folk and pop intermingle, creating a precious mosaic with epic overtones of voices and acoustic sounds. This is how Nunatak, a group from Cartagena formed by Adri (Ukelele, Guitar and Vocals), Dumdaca (Drums, Percussion), Gonzalo (Guitar and Vocals), Nando (Bass and Voices), Arnelio (Drums, Percussion), Viwe (Keyboards) are the main band. ) Erin (Violin and Voices) and Jose Manuel (Trumpet) are supporting members. In September 2012 Nunatak became known as part of the Lemon Pop festival poster, presenting the themes of his first self-released EP. Nunatak is nature, it is wind, it is fire, it is a mosaic of melodies and voices, sometimes epic, sometimes precious, that merge into a powerful choral staging, that invites you to smile and pushes you to scream. The band has received a very good reception from the public and specialized media (Capitán Demo, El Mundo de Tulsa, Muzicalia). Currently Nunatak continues to perform their first EP on stage as well as other new songs that will become part of his future work. Read more on Last.fm.
