Ninho's discovery by the public took place with the release of his album 'Comme Prévu' in 2017. However, before then, the 91-77 rapper had already released 4 projects, including the mixtape 'MILS' (for Maintenant Ils El Savent), which has since become a cult hit. His stage name is directly linked to his youth, when he burst onto the French rap scene in 2014 with his first mixtape 'Ils Sont Pas Au Courant' at the tender age of 18. He went on to achieve gold records by the age of 20. Throughout his career, he has released a total of 9 solo projects, collaborated on numerous hits and set certification records for his sales. Ninho's mere participation in a song generates an avalanche of plays, to the point where some claim that inviting him is enough to achieve a gold record.
This success, before the release of his ninth solo project, even caused him problems, especially with another French rap leader, Booba. However, nothing could dampen the connection between Ninho and his fans on 3 December with the release of his new album "Jefe". The much-anticipated rapper boldly announced that there would be no collaborations on his album, evidencing his determination to assume his position as the leader of French rap. Objectively, he has been one of the top 3 or 4 rappers in the country for almost 5 years. The gamble seems to have paid off: 15 tracks exploring a variety of moods, from melancholy on 'VVS' or 'Jefe', to aggressive on 'Sky Priority' and 'Mood', to nostalgic moments on 'Arme de Poing' and 'RER D'.
Various producers, including BBP, SNK prod and many others, contributed to the album, allowing it to incorporate different musical styles. Despite this diversity, the album remains consistent with his previous discography. It offers the usual mix of singles designed to be radio hits, club-friendly songs and a fair amount of more rap-centric, less melodic bangers. Ninho has not changed his formula, staying true to his principles with the inclusion of "Latin music" style instrumentals and references to his everyday life, which has undergone significant changes since his early days. This album is sure to please his solid fan base, even if there are other prominent artists competing at the end of the year (Jul, Rohff, Orelsan, Ziak, etc.). However, at Project X Paris, we know a few things about him: he doesn't feel pressured either in front of the microphone or in front of streaming results, not even in front of our cameras.
Ninho, whose real name is William Nzobazola, was born in Longjumeau (Essonne) and grew up in Nemours (Seine-et-Marne). His parents are of Kino-Congolese origin (diaspora from the Democratic Republic of Congo) and he has two older sisters. From an early age, Ninho was attracted to the world of rap. He started writing his own songs and rapping them at the age of 12. "I was trying to follow in the footsteps of the older boys in my neighbourhood, who also rapped," he told the Yard. The teenager soon showed a talent for declaiming lyrics.
In 2013, Ninho created his own mixtapes that showcased his best rap lyrics. Jusqu'en 2016, he would compose three: "Ils sont pas au courant Vol. 1", "En attendant I.S.P.A.C. 2 (Ils sont pas au courant)" one year later then "I.S.P.A.C. 2" two years later.
In 2016, Ninho releases the mixtape that will finally make him known in the milieu: "M.I.L.S.", acronym of "Maintenant ils le savent". The impact is huge on the French rap community and the record quickly becomes a platinum record. It is the beginning of a flourishing career for Ninho.
In 2017, Ninho produced his first studio album entitled "Comme prévu". Several singles were taken from it, such as "Roro", "Chino" and his duet with Nekfeu, "De l'autre côté". Rappers Gradur and Sofiane also participated in featurings on the album. Comme prévu" went straight to number 1 in the French album charts. In a few months, it went triple platinum, with more than 300,000 copies sold. Ninho is often little known to the general public, but he has a strong following in French rap circles. His listeners know all his songs by heart.
Ninho's lyrics mix descriptions of life in the slums, crime and dreams of glory. In the summer he released the single "Mamacita", which attracted a wider audience. Ninho sings rather than raps, and talks about seduction and relationships between men and women. He collaborated with Sadek on the track "Madre Mia", which became a diamond record. In 2018, Ninho released the mixtape "M.I.L.S. 2.0", which almost immediately went double platinum. The singles "Un Poco" and "Fendi" were taken from it. The rapper also did several featurings with artists such as Sofiane, Hornet la Frappe and Kpoint.
Ninho returns in early 2020 with a third mixtape: "M.I.L.S. 3.0". The single "Lettre à une femme" has once again broken records as the most played song in 24 hours on Spotify. It even became the fastest single to go gold in France (only 9 days). Ninho continues to collaborate, singing with Dadju on "Grand Bain", which will be released in summer 2020.
The rapper's streak of successes and collaborations continues. After "Music" with Soprano in 2020, he released "All is well" with Marseille rapper Alonzo at the end of June 2022. Although the 26-year-old rapper has been more discreet since the release of "Jefe" in 2021, Ninho nevertheless sold almost half a million albums in 2022. Another success for the rapper, the singles "Mood" and "Outro" were certified gold singles. He is now the only French artist to have achieved 200 certified titles.
That same year, he won the "Social Hit" award at the NRJ Music Awards for the song "Tout va bien" with Alonzo and Naps.
