Jaguar Sun

Biography

Ontario musician and multi-instrumentalist Chris Minielly makes experimental dream pop under the name Jaguar Sun. Taking inspiration from bands such as STRFKR, Youth Lagoon and Panda Bear, Minielly’s music fuses dreamlike soundscapes with alt-pop. Jaguar Sun boasts a flair for instrumentation, effortlessly balancing layered guitars with synths and vocals - a great example of how his artistic autonomy shines through when making creative decisions. A little reclusive, Chris tackled producing as a solo effort from the start using music as an escape from social stress, work, and his hectic studies in graphic design. Spending hours in his bedroom studio, Chris began producing electronic music under the name Lone Beach and after slowly refining his sound, adding more instruments to the mix, and growing out of his electronic roots, Chris dropped the name Lone Beach and started fresh under his new project Jaguar Sun. In a somewhat successful attempt to justify more recording time, Chris swung this new musical endeavor as a thesis project and began recording a full length through his final year of school. Nearly two years later with 12 songs on the backboard Chris condensed the album and released his debut EP That Night. A collection of three songs that delve into the world of alternative/ indie rock and look back over an old relationship and memories from College. Jaguar Sun released his full length debut album This Empty Town in July 2020 via Born Losers Records. In April 2021 he released a collaboration EP with Jesse Maranger titled Bloom.
