AM5

Biography

The AM5 is a well-known & enthusiastic British blues band. Their music; 'hard drivin' British rhythm & blues in the style of Dr. Feelgood, the Count Bishops and Pretty Things et al. Mixed with their own work. The AM5 have evolved over the last few years to become one of the most exciting Blues bands on the European live circuit. The AM5's combination of hard drivin' British rhythm & blues in the vein of Dr. Feelgood, the Count Bishops and early Pretty Things with the American biker/bar bands such as the Nighthawks and the Guy Forsyth Band mixed in with their own material makes for a very diverse and unique style. With their varied selection of both electric and acoustic sets, energetic stage show and sheer enthusiasm, the AM5 will appeal to a wide audience. Ace harmonica player AL E BYE affectionately known as (little Al) is the founder member of the AM5. Having been part of most Southend bands, including the Jukes, the Screamin' Abdabs (Alison Moyet's original band) and the Chicago Bearcats, Al decided to front his own outfit incorporating his own unique presentation of harmonica playing. After several years playing local bars and clubs under the band name of the Al Morocco Five, Al decided to change the style and sound of the band. By drawing on his extensive knowledge of local musicians he formed what is now known as the AM5. On Fender Bass he has T.C. who earned his stripes playing bass with Eddie and the Hotrods touring both Europe and America and then going on to work with people such as Lew Lewis' band, Jumping Catfish featuring Steve Weston among many others. In September 1996, after the band had returned from a tour of Germany, WAYNE (TRIUMPH) BRONZE was recruited on drums. Bronze had previously played with notable names such as The Hotrods, Otis Grand and members of Dr. Feelgood and was well suited to the hard British Blues style of music that is now the AM5. He already knew and had worked with Bass player T.C. touring Europe and appearing on several live GLR sessions for Mary Costello with Steve Hooker. Vocalist BIG BAZ certainly changed the direction of the band by his larger than life stage presence and aggressive slide guitar. Baz, who had fronted the rock band Lizard and produced their album 'The Power of One', was new to the R n' B and Blues scene and brought into the band a fresher, harder approach which lends itself perfectly to the early sounds of British R n' B. On Lead guitar is the newest member of the AM5. TERRY 'DAVE' WYATT has played in several rock bands including Lizard (with Bigbaz), Moon and the Swampsnakes. He was also lead guitarist in Coyote Blues. Dave has also done session work with various artists over the years. We don't yet have the DNA to prove it but it is believed that 'Dave' is a long lost love child of Al E Bye. Guitarists who have been members of the AM5 are: Badger Norris, Ian Cundy ( Automatic Slim, Kundalini Drive) Chris Kelly (Lizard) Drummers who have been members of the AM5 are: Colin Gilbert ( Cadillac, Jumping Stingrays.) Bob Clouter ( Legend, Robin Trower, Ugly Guys, Zoltans etc) Bass players who have depped with the AM5 are: Russ Strutter (Wilko Johnson, Tonight, Phil Burdett.), Phil Mitchell (Dr. Feelgood.) Andy Farrell ( Zoltans, Hamsters.) Harmonicas players who have depped are: Mark Sibley, Jim the Harp. The AM5 split in 2002 due to Baz relocating to Spain to pursue a career in solo entertaining, where he also joined up with Eddy Stacey to form the Yankee Blues Brothers ( Blues Brothers tribute act). T.C and Wayne formed The Nightflys with Mark Sibley and Kevin Webb. T.C. eventually left The Nighflys to form Snake Oil with Mike Levey until T.C.moved to Spain and then back to Newcastle where is today. Wayne is currently playing with The Roy Mette Band and numerous other bands. Terry (Dave) Wyatt is now playing Bass as a member of Who's Who which is THE Who tribute band. Al joined Hair of the Dog for about a year while in the meantime he formed The Jives with Jeff Chapman (Chicago Bearcats, Roosters) a duo which still tours extensively around Europe. 2010 saw the return of Baz to England and a brief reformation of the band for a one off gig in February 2011 with Mark Sibley depping for Al (who was playing a gig with The Jives). 2012 The AM5 are back with original members for a few gigs in England and Europe.
