Alberto Alcalá (born August 4, 1986) is a Spanish singer-songwriter from Antequera (Málaga, Spain). In 1997 he started taking flamenco guitar lessons with guitarist Paco de Antequera until 2001. Within a year he begins to compose his own songs which are influenced by singers such as Pedro Guerra and Javier Álvarez. He starts to perform in cafés and pubs in his province as well, singing his own songs among some other singer-songwriter's versions. In September 2004 he moved to Granada to study Hispanic Philology. There he also started playing in some cafés like "La Tertulia", where he is currently playing. Alcalá continued performing his first demo, "Pintando canas al aire", recorded in 2006 along with other singer-songwriters like Fede Comín, Fran Fernández, Nacho Artacho, Patricia Lázaro and Jasé Arbelo in Málaga, Granada, Córdoba, Madrid and Tenerife. The musical styles he is influenced by range from bossa nova over flamenco to funky and hip-hop. Despite his young age, he has won several contests: in May 2007 he received the "VIII Muestra Nacional de canción de autor, Cantigas de Mayo" in Ceutí (Murcia). In April 2008 he received the "VII Concurso intergeneracional de cantanutores, Abril para vivir" in Granada, where he was also awarded the "Esteban Valdivieso", best song, for "Habanera”. In 2008 he will start recording his first album "Periódica pura", produced by Fede Comín. Official site: www.albertoalcala.com Read more on Last.fm.
